Artist's Comments

Since I know this photo may piss people off, I'll explain right from the beginning. This is NOT meant toward all self harmers (As I've been SIing for 10 years myself, that'd be kinda dumb). It's meant toward the people that 1)do it for attention 2)do it because their friends do 3)do it to be "cool" 4) just want to be "emo". So please don't get into about how I don't understand, and I'm being mean, etc. Okay? Thanks.

I really like this image, and I love the concept. My only suggestion is that you resize the picture so that we can view the whole image in full view.

Otherwise, great idea! :D

Yeah, but I think your explanation says it all, and there are a lot of people out there who do pose self harm, which is really hurtfull for people who actually go through the real thing... sillies!

Ok, I've been seriously self harming for 5 years, have not told anyone unless I've had to, and have only made any form of advertising about it as a form of therapy. So, by what I think is your judgement of what a "valid" self harmer is I think I pass.

Now, I've had experience with self harmers who, unlike myself, have self harmed because of the first 2 reasons you've stated, namely 1) for attention and 2) because their friends do it.

First, self harming as a cry for help is very valid, and is often a person who has no other way of expressing how they feel to the people they love. This is akin to passive suicide attempts, these people aren't posers, thay're just desperate to let someone know they need help, and don't have the resources to do it any other way.

Second, self harming because their friends do it. Ive' been through this twice since I first started, once was by my first love, who wanted to show me how it felt to see someone you love doing it to themselves, the second was by, annoyingly, another ex. She was just a misguided girl who didn't understand what she was doing. Neither of these are posers.

Sorry to rant, but this stuff really annoys me, just because people self harm for different reasons than me doesn't give me any right to look down on them, just like I'm sure you don't think people who don't self harm should look down on you.
